Dr James Fenton was one of the first independent consultants in Scotland, setting-up the consultancy Seco which ran from 1986-1991; this carried out work for a wide range of organisations including The Scottish Wildlife Trust, Forestry Commission, National Trust for Scotland and private landowners.

Thereafter James was employed for 14 years as the first Ecologist for The National Trust for Scotland, followed by five years working for Scottish Natural Heritage on landscape policy.

He then became CEO of the NGO Falklands Conservation, based in the Falkland Islands. In 2013 he returned to Scotland and re-launched his Seco consultancy.
